Age Relaxation for Defence Personnel by UPSC   The policy on age relaxation applicable for ex-servicemen for appearing in Civil Services Exam (Group ‘A’ & ‘B’ Posts) is governed by ‘Ex-servicemen (Re-employment in Central Civil Services and Posts) Rules, 1979’ as amended vide DoP&T Notification No. 36034/1/06-Estt.(SCT) dated 4th October, 2012. The following provisions have been made:- For appointment to any vacancy in Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ services or posts filled by direct recruitment otherwise than on the result of an Open All India Competitive Examination, the upper age limit shall be relaxed by the length of military service increased by three years in the case of ex-servicemen and Commissioned Officers including Emergency Commissioned Officers or Short Service Commissioned Officers. Budget for DRDO   The total Budget of Department of Defence Research & Development (R&D) for the Financial Year 2018-19 is Rs. 17861.19 crore with a manpower of approximately 24224 (including 7354 scientists). A total of 13 research projects in Technology Development (TD) and Science & Technology (S&T) category have been taken up in the year 2018-19 in the broad areas of hybrid power system, advanced materials, CBW Defence technologies, laser diode technology, technologies for insensitive munition etc. and since these are in design phase, outcome of research projects will be seen in the subsequent years. Employment Guarantee Scheme               Employment generation coupled with improving employability is the priority concern of the Government. Ministry of Rural Development has been implementing ‘The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2005’ which provides at least one hundred days of guaranteed wage employment in every financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work. The demand for work itself is influenced by various factors such as rain-fall pattern, availability of alternative and remunerative employment opportunities outside MGNREGA and prevailing unskilled wage rates. Reversion to Old Pension Scheme Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions Reversion to old pension scheme In accordance with the scheme for National Pension System (NPS), as notified vide Ministry of Finance (Department of Economic Affairs)’s Notification No. 5/7/2003-ECB & PR dated 22.12.2003, the System is mandatory for all new recruits to the Central Government service (except armed forces) from 01.01.2004. Accordingly, as per Rule 2 of the Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 1972, as amended on 30.12.2003, these rules are applicable to Government servants appointed to civil posts on or before 31.12.2003. Scheme of ‘Pension to Meritorious Sports Persons’ Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Pension to Sports Persons Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore has said that government gives lifelong pension under the Scheme of ‘Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons’, sportspersons who have won medals for the country in the international competitions only and have retired from active sports. In a written reply in Lok Sabha today, the Minister said at present, 588 Sportspersons are getting pension. The rate of pension has been revised with effect from 1.4.2018.
